I was thrilled to be a part of Waterford Walls 2023 as an emerging artist. The piece I painted in situated on Stephens Street in Waterford City.

Project Statement:

Overwhelmed by possibility, potential, and creative pursuits, I came home one day and lay on the ground outside and looked up at the sky. The architecture of the place I am from, and the endless clouds overhead felt like a stark contrast, holding down and pulling up. I captured my perspective in a photograph, and then I fell asleep.

The next day I transformed the photograph into a line drawing on perspex, and made etched prints from it. The monotone simplicity of the prints have inspired the graphic nature of this design.

To me the piece incorporates themes of home, finding your way in the world, mental health and overwhelm, creative blocks and processes, shifting perspectives, and letting nature take its course.

The title of the piece: 'I can do anything, but I can't do anything, because I can do anything' plays into these themes
